MANA Online Manok Academy reloaded for Oplan Balik Sigla
Online Manok Academy is mainly a study group but we can also try to help in preserving Sabong, that is part of our tradition and source of livelihood to many. We have just seen what happened and we already must have an idea of what might happen.
MANA was founded by Rey Bajenting in 2008. It was first registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as a non-stock corporation. However, later, MANA became less of a member-based organization and evolved into an advocacy and movement to promote the interest of small-time Sabungeros. It has become online based since 2010.
Since then, MANA has been into promoting knowledge on the gamefowl, particularly on practical but scientific breeding and management of the gamefowl and chicken in general. This is with view to imparting to members economical ways of breeding and raising gamefowl. “Ang Sabong ay nakasisiya kung ito ay hindi pabigat sa bulsa.”
MANA established Online Manok Academy FB learning group in late 2018.
Amid the Covid crisis in 2020, MANA has remained committed to the cause. In furtherance of the objectives, MANA has decided to launch on August 1, 2020, a new Online Manok Academy, incorporating into the lessons, the promotion of the interest of maliliit na Sabungero and masang magmamanok, and, also, its gamefowl breeding dispersal at very affordable cost and easy terms to interested members of the group.
Both the reloading of the Academy with lessons and tips, and the dispersal at even lower cost of breeding materials are components of MANA Oplan Balik Sigla.
The Covid crisis devastated Sabong. Sabong as we knew it may not be back soon.
Maybe it will be back. But not as what it is before Covid. The crisis unmasked the weak structure of Sabong in the Philippines. There was no truth to the bravado that "touch sabong and we will have revolution. True Sabungeros are gentlemen and just Sabungeros, not Katipuneros.
The way things are going, it seems that at least during the rest if 2020 ang early 2021 there is no going back to normal. That means, including the possibility of no cockfighting. Even when the CQs are lifted, many industries and sports, including sabong will not see instant recovery. We have to accept this reality.
It didn’t help that the so-. called leaders of the Sabong industries, (the gambling lords, businessmen, federations, etc) were not doing anything to justify the existing of Sabong in the mid of worldwide sentiments against it as a form of cruelty to animals.
The only argument for Sabong was it was part of Filipino tradition. However, these so-called leaders of the industry has transformed Sabong from traditional into instrument of big-time gambling operations and big business ventures
Where was the Sabong that is part of our tradition?
However, the spirit of Sabong as tradition will die just because of Covid. What is threatened now is the Sabong that is instrument of big time gambling and big-money business. It is the ugly face of Sabong.
That’s why we have Oplan Balik Sigla.
