Hybridization results in better gamefowl

6th of a series: Perubliz is product of hybridization.
At RB Sugbo we have our own Peruvian blend. We call it Perubliz. It is a prduct of hybridization. The idea was to form variation strains of the Blakliz with Peruvian blood.
The Peruvian can yet improve the Blakliz. It is just a matter of knowing the assets and liabilities of the Peruvian. Which among the traits in the Peruvian we need and which we have to discard. Then, comes the matter of choosing the right Peruvian to blend with our Blakliz. Finally, we can do it by repeatedly breeding- in more and more of the good traits and less and less of the bad ones.
We reckon that what is needed is just a small Peruvian blood. Say, 3/8 at most, or ¼ or even just 1/8, depending on the actual circumstances. The proportion of blood doesn’t matter, as long as the traits we want in both breeds are present. In setting the Perubliz as bloodline we tried several proportions of Peruvian blood, or more importantly, proportion of traits. Some are better than the others. We kept those proportion of traits that we liked. The key is finding the ideal blend. For example start with a 50-50 blend of an excellent Peruvian and equally excellent American. Then slowly downgrade the Peruvian blood to your liking. Keep in mind breeding is not about numbers but about traits. Therefore, ideal blends differ from one breeder to another, depending on the traits of the Peruvian and American bloodlines they are utilizing.
In breeding the Perubliz, we do incremental downgrading of the Peruvian blood vis a viz the Blakliz. But always we take extra care in the final mating that will result in my desired battle fowl. we call it the critical cross. In this critical cross we make sure the downgraded Peruvian we use still possesses the good traits and already devoid of the bad ones. In the critical crosses, almost all the time, we use a downgraded Peruvian brood cock over hens of our most tested bloodlines. Because, by utilizing Peruvian graded brood cocks instead of hens, we can be sure that the fighting traits of the Peruvian that we like to keep are still present. You can only observe fighting traits in the roosters, not in the hens. That’s why mandatory addition traits of gamefowl such as gameness, cutting ability and other excellent fighting traits should be emphasized on the brood cock.
