Original Pinoy Bloodlines

Through the years, real Pilipino breeders were not contented with propagating imported bloodlines. They made their own.

Some of these original creations made a name.

Everyone has heard of Lemon 84, Mitra and Zamboanga White. They are legendary original Pilipino bloodlines. In a more recent history, a line of barred (bulik) scored in bakbakan 19.5 out of 20. The line is bred by Dr. Ronnie Magbalon.

Other famous bulik lines are those of Captain Joe de Sagun, Mayor Lagbas, and Gengen Arayata. Although it is worth mentioning that bulik or dom per se is not a bloodline. Any plumage color, except a very light one, can be turned into a bulik with the addition of the barring gene.

In the 2nd edition of his book Lihim sa Pagbuo ng Sarili’ng Linyada, (2016) Dr. Andrew Bunan cites 10 original Filipino bloodlines worth mentioning. The Lemon 84, the Lemon Guapo of Mayor Juancho Aguirre, and Super Lemon of George Corpus. Then, Primalion’s Zamboanga White and Zamboanga Black; Art Lopez White Hatch, and Toliz White. The Arayata Dom and the DVH Black of Danilo Hinlo. And the Blakliz of Rey Bajenting. The Blakliz is based on RB Sugbo’s Black and Silver Genetics. Thus the Blakliz comes in classic brown red. In midnight grey. And, in predominant black.

Another noteworthy point is that of all the Pilipino bloodlines mentioned above, only the lemons are red. The others are dark fowl, or off-colors.
