How to make a prepotent fowl?

A pre-potent fowl is an individual that is highly capable of passing on his good traits to the off spring. A pre-potent fowl can be a pure of a bloodline or a blend; an in-bred or a crossbred or even a hybrid, as long it can pass the desired traits to the offspring.

There are individuals pure of a bloodline name but does not have the desired traits. Therefore, these individuals are not pre-potent for good traits. It cannot pass any good trait to the next generation.

The requirement for being a prepotent individual is that such individual are homozygous of the desired traits, and these genes are dominant. In the case this individual can always throw to the offspring the desired traits as it is homozygous or pure of these traits. Then it will express in the next generation as these traits are dominant.

This explanation is, however, very Mendellian or classical genetics. This is true to simple hereditary traits such as comb type, in which single gene dictates its expression. Creating prepotent individuals is easier in show birds, layers, and meat poultry. But breeding game fowl is different story.

The most important factor in game fowl is fighting ability. Fighting ability is polygenic or dictated by many genes in different chromosomes. So how can we make an individual prepotent for good fighting traits?

We can only make a fowl prepotent for good fighting traits by continuously and repeatedly pairing individuals that possess the fighting traits we desire, pure or not, inbred or not, related or not these individuals might be.

For example by breeding nothing but individuals with high flying ability we may end up with a bloodline with individual members possessing high flying abilities. Same with consistently breeding power to power or speed to speed. The end result may be individuals heavy with either trait. For simple traits, we can aspire for pure. For traits that dictate fighting ability we cannot aspire for pure, an individual heavily packed with genes of the desired characteristics would suffice.
