Superior native Chicken vs. the American Game

Some say that the Habagat must have much American Game (AG) blood as it has some features of the AG. But, computed by blood proportion, the Habagat is more than 80% native.

They are talking of traits of the American like good feathering, superior body conformation, ideal proportion and balance of the American. But these are must traits for RBS Habagat, or any chicken for that matter, in order to be as combat-capable as the American Game.

These characteristics are correlated with fighting ability. If these qualities are gone, so are good fighting traits. Therefore if your rooster still fights well, then it must have also kept these correlated traits. These are not characteristics of the AG alone, but usual characteristics of good fighting breeds.

The Habagat has these traits not because of high proportion of AG blood, but because of concentration of good fighting genes.

RBS Habagat is bigger and taller and more beautiful than ordinary native but it retains many traits of the native, a proof that the proportion of native blood is not heavily diluted. The Habagat has the native chicken’s characteristic big ears, big face and big head. Its wattles are native type too, as well as its shank and feet colors. RBS Habagat retains some of the better fighting traits of the native such as being a bit smarter and higher breaker than average American.

The RBS Habagat is designed to compete against American Game. The American is the best fighting breed of today when it comes to armed rooster combat. A way to beat the American on its own game is to fight like the American, only little bit better.

Thus, we figured out that for the native to beat the American, it has to look like American in balance and proportion, body conformation, station and other physical looks that count in combat. It isn’t important if the native chicken retains its big head, big face, dirty shank and feet and plumage color. These traits don’t help win fights.

The native chicken also has to fight like American. It has to be good cutter, game, aggressive, fast and strong. Yes it has to be intelligent too. Smart but aggressive, not the over defensive type of native chicken in the past. To beat a champion, one should be like a champion.

To look and fight like American doesn’t mean the Habagat has to become an American. Habagat is Manok Bisaya, a Philippine native chicken, a native to the Philippines.

So what’s the fuss, at any rate, the AG is also a native chicken. Native to North America.
