A native Philippine game breed

The breed is American Game.

Sweater, roundhead, hatch, claret, butcher, grey are not breeds but strains of American Game. The Blakliz and Sugbo Lemon are our own strains of American Game. So we, at RB Sugbo, are a breeder of American Game. Breeder in the true sense of the word. Meaning we are not just a propagator. We have originated our own strains of the breed American Game.

Our Perubliz is a hybrid. Not a cross between two American Game strains but a hybrid between Peruvian and American Game.

We also breed the Irish Game with our own concoction of the Irish grey, Irish ginger and Irish black.

And, we breed the native chicken. We have developed our own native chicken—the Habagat. We would want to call the Habagat the Philippine Game and we will devote some long-term efforts to have it recognized as a breed by at least one internationally acknowledged breeds registry.

With the three varied breeds that we breed, two of which are outside the current norms of cockfighting, it is obvious, we are competing against our own goals, not against any body else's standards.

Our game fowls are competitive. Our clients, partners, buyers and friends can attest to that. Our own fighting records support the same claim. However, we know our chickens are not the best. There is no such thing as the best game fowl on earth.

In breeders’ tournaments like the VIGBA and CVBA circuits or the Digmaan and Bakbakan we only field single entry, unlike most other contenders who can afford more than a dozen entries per series. Of course by that, they increase their chances of winning awards. We could not afford to do that. We simply don't have the money for that.

However, we believe in our chickens. For years we have fought with our Blakliz and lately the Perubliz and the Shuffler Blakliz. Our own lines have propelled Barsur gamefarm to the Breeder of the year award of International Federation of Gamefowl Breeders Associations, equivalent to winning the national BOTY.

We know our bloodlines got what it takes to be able win. To once again show our confidence in our own bloodlines, RB Sugbo, in this year's stag season will be fielding in the VIGBA and Digmaan tournaments full shows of our native chicken—the Habagat.

The Habagat might not be as great as your sweaters, roundheads, kelsos, hatches or Peruvians, because it is just a native chicken. But don't take the Habagat lightly, it is a native chicken intended to compete with dignity against the best American Game.
