Pointing proper
Pointing is a process. The process of providing the rooster all the proper environment to bring it to tip top condition. a few days before the fight the rooster is subjected to a peaking period that will prepare it for pointing proper on fight day.
The day of the fight is the culmination of all efforts to condition the rooster. The moment of truth is near. We cannot afford to commit mistakes this close to fight time. Mistakes at this point could be fatal.
We do the pointing proper on the day of the fight. Remember that the object of the entire exercise of pointing is to bring the rooster to peak performance at fight time by achieving sharpness. Sharpness means not just speed but also quickness; not just power but also snap; not just attention but also focus.
Prepare the following pointing feed on fight day: fine corn, egg white and pellets. Also bring your favorite pointing supplement.
Don’t forget to bring the basic things you will need at the cockpit on fight day. Some of the basics are the folding stalls where you will rest your cocks in the cockpit, some dark cloth to darken these stalls; folding wire pens for limbering, some litter for very light scratching, banana leaves for cooling, teaser cocks, drinking water for the cocks, pointing feeds, water sprayer, water buckets, and some other items you may need in the cockpit.
On the day of the fight, try to bring the cock to the cockpit early. Arriving before daybreak is best. This will allow more than an hour’s rest before they are fed. This also means that the cocks were hauled while still dark, thus they were simply resting inside the traveling boxes all the while. But mainly, so you can start with the pointing proper in the cockpit. It is not advisable to start the pointing proper at the farm and then disrupt it in the middle of the process by hauling the birds from the farm to the cockpit.
