Fighting Maneuver: Cut from Under
Cutting from under is an indespensable quality for a long knife rooster. The video shows a stag of Lee Carlos-RB Sugbo (Tacloban) cuts from under against a formidable opponent fielded by a big timer from Eastern Samar.
The cut from under
This is one very valuable trait of a fighting cock, the ability to cut effectively even from a position below the opponent. Fights usually start with a break—both roosters meeting on the air. More often than not one rooster will manage to top the opponent or be above the other rooster. This is a very advantageous position.
However, some rooster doesn’t give up so easily, despite being below during a break or buckle. Good roosters will still be able to cut from under. Good roosters can cut as effectively from an upside down position. This is called cutting from under.
This ability has been bred into most excellent American Game strains. This is an indispensable quality for long knife roosters, because in the fast and furious slahers fights everything can happen, including your rooster being caught underneath the opponent. When tihis happens, the ability to cut from under is the only way out.
