Is there a breed such as Peruvian?

Is Peruvian a breed? Or just a collection of assorted game fowl that came from Peru?

I am not sure but I haven’t read any chicken breed registry that mentions the Peruvian among the acknowledged breed of chickens.

American game is in most lists. Old English game is always in the lists. A number of orientals such as the asil, shamo, malay, and satsumadori are mentioned. Even the Philippines native chicken is in some lists. But, Peruvians are never in any major registry of chicken breeds that I have read (It is on Ultimate Fowl Wikipedia, though, not a major registry).

Tall and heavy, yet they are quick. They pack power and cut well. They originated from French, Belgian, Spanish and oriental fowl. They are the Peruvian game fowl. And they are now here in the Philippines.

Bloodlines from Peru are getting very popular in the Philippines. Several years ago in many cockfighting countries there was an asil mania, but it didn’t catch as much fire here. The asils were not the Filipinos’ type of fighting cocks. The Peruvians seem to be. After all while asils are best in naked heels, the Peruvians are bred for the long knife, the only type of rooster fighting Filipinos had learned to love.

The Peruvian is gaining popularity here, despite the fact that these bloodlines from Peru are very expensive. Trios may sell at US$3,500-US$ 5,000. Whereas, nowadays one can import a trio of good American game fowl for a landed cost of US$ 1,500.

What will be the standards

of the fighting rooster

of the future?

The Peruvian is getting popular in the Philippines. It is a different kind of rooster. It is much bigger, much taller, much stronger, although not necessarily better than the American Game fowl.

Definitely the Peruvian game fowl will change the standards of the future. In some instances it will tremendously improve the present bloodlines. On the other hand it could also ruin many good bloodlines of today.

The Peruvian has a couple of good traits vital to winning Long Knife fights. But it also has more bad traits. Finding out which are good and which are bad is the challenge.

We think just enough Peruvian blood is good. Too much Peruvian blood is bad.

We are trying to balance it out. Check out the PERUBLIZ.
